Highlights of the recent trends found by DDI’s (Development Dimensions International, Inc) annual Global Leadership Forecast for 2023
The attached article, written by Leadership Strategist and Author Dan Pontefract, was published in Forbes in Feb. 2023.
This is the World’s largest leadership trend study with more than 1500 participating organizations over 24 industry sectors in more than 50 countries and responses from 1 827 human resource professionals and from 13 695 leaders.
Maybe the results are not surprising for many, but these stopped me when I listened to the conversation (https://lnkd.in/dPFqzVsa) between Dan Pontefract and Stephanie Neal, a director of the Center for Analytics and Behavioral Research (CABER) and a lead author of DDI’s Global Leadership Forecast.

Trust and the Sense of Purpose
Trust and the sense of purpose in workplace impacts everything. According to the reports, leaders who trust their senior colleagues are 3X more innovative and those who have a strong sense of purpose are 9X more likely to feel engaged and 2.4X more likely to stay in the company.
Challenges are seen with maintaining the engaged workforce and with the lack support and tools that leaders would need to develop their talents.
Other trends from the report:
📍 Many employees fear that AI could push them out of their jobs.
📍 Hybrid work and return to office => CEOs see that employee engagement and retention are their top business concerns and there is a growing gap between executives and their employees on returning to in-person work.
📍 Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) => One of the trust breaker for employees has been the lack of F-U through on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Leaders who endorse their company’s DEI efforts decreased by 18 %.
📍 Political unrest => Global conflicts concern employees, and in the US the presidential election brings highly polarized feelings to the workplace.
